Praying for those in Chile...

Once again we find ourselves praying for and thinking of those that have experienced a natural disaster.  It brings feelings of compassion for others affected and feeling a need to help somehow.  I know that the Lord has all-power and ability to make miracles happen.  I pray for all those affected by the earthquake in Chile and those that will be affected by the Tsunami.
We are still thinking of and praying for those in Haiti.

Another Marathon...

I did it!!  I signed up for another Marathon.  I was uncertain about running this one last Summer, but decided to give it a whirl this year.  A friend also mentioned that she had signed up so I felt more encouraged and motivated.  I will be running the ROCK 'n' ROLL Seattle Marathon on Sat. June 26th.  Let the training begin.  I will also be on the look out for a babysitter.  Any takers?  HINT: Frandi, Grammie Deb, Carlene?
My goal is to run 2 marathons this year and a bunch of other 10K and 15K's in between, with some family races.  Ragnar Relay Race is in July, so Rob and I will be doing that one for sure.  I did sign us up for the Annual Local Family Runnin' O' Green Race on Sat. March 13th.  We always run this one as a family and we really have fun.  It is a short 2 mile run on one of our local trails.  Which we are very familiar with.  I'm hoping to get Juliette to run this one this year.  She rides in a jogger with Sophia each year.  Pretty silly.  She is much too old to be pushed by Rob.  Poor Guy!  So stay tuned!

I Found the Running Shoes I WANT (but can't afford yet)...

So, I spent some time shopping around online and reading up on what kind of running shoes I wanted and needed to get.  I looked at every possible option and choices offered.  I am definitely not ready for the barefooting stuff.  But, do believe that a lesser heel cushioning might do the trick for me.
A more flatter running shoe, that helps me use my mid and forefoot more, and helps me have a lesser heel strike with every step I take running.  It makes sense.  When I did track and field in High School, I remember that with my spiked shoes I used my mid and forefeet most and it felt natural.  I'm willing to try that style of running again and see if it helps my knees and hips.
I went to two different local stores to try out what I thought were the shoes I was considering, but needed to try on for fit and comfort before buying them online.  Well, I walked out of one store with a whole new brand and style, one I had not even considered.  I really was excited to put these on, run a block and back with them on, and not feel my knee aching.  Seriously, they fit like a glove and my knee (I have ITBS and my knee has been hurting for 3 weeks) didn't even HURT!  Crazy!  I Know...but I did put my old shoes back on and ran to my car afterwards.  My knee hurt, seriously.  So, I'm SOLD!
The best part is that they are ASICS, which is the brand I really like.  The bad part is that they are $110 at the store and $83 online.  I have yet to pay more than $55 for a pair of running shoes.  I know that in the long run it will be worth it and I will benefit from having better shoes.  But, I can't get myself to spending that much money on one pair, because I will need two for training.  They will last me about 6-8 months if I have two to rotate.
These ASICS have a bit less cushioning on the heel area than the average running shoe.  It is not as flat as a spikeless XC or Track shoes, but they felt great to run in!  My Birthday is next week.  I may break down and get them for my birthday...Stay tuned.

The Post You All Have Been Waiting For...

I let my girls (not Sophia) get their ears pierced.  I know, SHOCKING!!!  I was already planning on letting Eliza get her ears pierced for her birthday in May.
Juliette kept asking and asking for herself as well.  It has been months since she has been begging to get her ears pierced.  She was even going around wearing these clip on hoops for paper, as earings to prove her point.  She has No problems expressing and communicating her feelings.
She talked to Rob and convinced him to let her get her ears pierced, but the deal was that she had to go 28 days straight, without a miss, of keeping her room clean, doing her homework and doing her chore without being told or reminded.  This was her way of showing us how responsible she can really be.
She also had to learn all about keeping and maintaining pierced ears, by cleaning them everyday and following some simple steps.  She had to pretend with us to have earings and she had to show us how to clean her pierced ears.  I was not very thrilled about htis whole thing.  But went along with it.
Then, Eliza felt that this was unfair and that she wanted to get hers pierced at the same time as Juliette's.  Nothing is fair, because when she asked, Juliette was already into her 24th day, and so she decided that she would prove to us that for 4 days she could do the same.  4 days!!!  What?
Juliette had already been showing us that she can be responsible enough...Eliza would have to wait.  Well, as you can see we didn't do to great as parents with following through.  Eliza got her ears pierced with Juliette.
It was really sweet to watch my two girls holding hands as they each took turns getting their ears pierced.  They did great and no one cried!  The girls said that it felt like a little pinch.  Thank goodness!  Juliette could have screamed, if we had let her, at the store.
I was really not showing a lot of excitement, I was a bit concerned about how they would handle the whole thing, but they proved me wrong.  They had a great experience.  I still have mixed feelings about it and it doesn't seem real to me, yet.  Sophia has no interest at all so far.  I don't mind that!
We did find out from Juliette, later that night, that as she sat on the chair waiting, she thought to herself that perhaps she wasn't ready, that maybe she was making a mistake.  Obviously she still went through with it,  but it was sweet to hear her say that and share those feelings with us.  My girls are growing up!

P.S  Juliette did mention tonight that she was feeling some remorse...We'll see what she says tomorrow!

James Is My Baker...

I came home tonight to find that my boy had been baking away.  The house smelled so good and the cookies were deeeeeelicious and beautiful.  He is my baker.  My sister Frandi sent me this recipe, and he just couldn't wait to try it:

Snickers Cookies
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup peanut butter
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
48 mini snickers (or cut fun size in half)

Beat butter, sugars and peanut butter until fluffy. Add e...ggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients. Wrap dough around snickers and form into a ball. Dip top side of cookie in sugar. Put on cookie sheet, sugar side up. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Lights, Camera, Action...

Tonight we enjoyed attending Eliza's 4th grade annual musical play.  She was a waitress that served Hot cocoa.  Very cute!  I really enjoyed taking some good pictures tonight.  In the past, with James' Musicals, our old camera would never take good pictures inside the school's cafeteria.  But, My Nikon can!!  Here are a few pictures of tonight's performance...

Juliette has No Problems Communicating...

In our family we have no problems communicating.  We have various methods that are very successful and obvious.  One is through writing.  Since Juliette learned how to write she has been the most cutest kid ever when it comes to leaving love notes and making cards, or leaving cute messages on our dry-erase board.  Not very often do we get some messages that come accross as, let's say, RUDE but plain old honest and sincere with a lot of negative emotions and feelings involved!
Over the weekend, Sophia spent it feeling sick, I found out that Juliette had asked Sophia to cough into her mouth so that she would get sick and not have to go to school.  Where in the WORLD did she come up with that one?  I would have never thought of such a thing when I was her age.  Poor Sophia felt terrible after I asked her if what I had heard was true.  She simply said "She made me".  She must have been absent when we held the family home evening lesson on AGENCY!
Anyhow, I told Juliette that no matter how she felt on Monday, that I would make sure she went to school and stayed in school.  She was not very happy.  Sunday night she left me this message on the dry erase board before going to bed:
"I will not go to school tomorrow, Mommy"
She did go to school and she is not deathly ill...her plan failed!
P.S  That same day I found over 10 stick-it notes all over the leaving room, kitchen and computer area that said "I hait James"...Love the mispelling though!  We just had to laugh on this one!  Don't ask me why she "hated" James so much that day that she just had to let everyone know.  She definitely has no problems expressing or communicating her emotions, thoughts and feelings.

All in one Weekend...

Just when we thought we could enjoy sleeping in...It was one of those Saturdays.  8am running group, Rob drop off james at Church at 8:30am for Carpooling (missed it, had to drive James to Ferndale).  Rob goes to work at 10:30am, I pick up James at 10:45am.  James has Indoor soccer game at 11:20am, rush to make it in time, game starts late.  Drive James to Service Project at 1pm- quickly grab smoothies to go for lunch.  Arrive at Service Project for friend's Eagle Scout project, get him a ride home.  Drive myself and girls to friend's b-day party.  Enjoy b-day party and shoot away with camera.  Sophia not feeling good.  End of Party, drive home.  Forget it is Saturday and skip cleaning house.  It is left over night and a movie.  Prepare food and dessert for Sunday dinner guests.  Rob arrives, I take a deep breath, hot shower and crash into bed by 9pm.  Then Sunday was busy as well.  We enjoyed dinner with the Missionaries and our friends the Fisher family.  Where have my weekends gone?!
P.S. Had computer trouble for four days...not fun!

A Surprise Rendez-Vous...Kids and Music...

Rob came home after 4pm yesterday and as he walked in the door, he tells me that we are going out on the Lake for a Canoe ride.  I proceeded to tell the kids to get ready and let's go.  Rob said that this was just for him and I.  WOW!!!  A surprise Rendez-Vous...Loved it!
The Lake was absolutely glassy and so still.  The weather couldn't of been more perfect for a ride on the Canoe.  I got dressed for the weather, grabbed my camera and headed out the door to the neighbor's house to borrow her canoe.  Rob and I had a wonderful time.  Rob was so sweet to row the whole hour we were out.  We saw the sun as it was going down, saw birds and nature all around us couldn't of been more gorgeous looking.  I felt like a little girl.  Loved it.  Rob spoils me so much and I just love how spontaenous he can be.  I always have the most fun with him.  He is my best friend.

On our little walk back home we wondered about the kids and dinner.  I mentioned the possibility of James making dinner....NAH!  Well, we walked in the door and I find my wonderful 12 year old making Arepas, for dinner, easy enough!  WOW!  Pretty impressive.  He never ceases to amaze me just like his Daddy.
I also did find some lyrics on our dry erase board written by Juliette that we didn't recognize.  So, Rob researched it and found out what song they were from.  It amazes me how kids can hear stuff that we are not even aware of.  Scarey at the same time.  The song was a Pop song by Jay Sean titled DOWN, where did she hear this song?  and who is Jay Sean?  I am not surprised though.  Juliette loves music, she loves singing all the time.  She is drawn to it and can memorize lyrics by hearing the song once or twice.  Pretty impressive!  She is very sharp.
She convinced James to find the song by typing a few of the lyrics that she could remember, online.  Then he went on YouTube and played it for the girls.  Amazing!  Our kids these days are so stinkin' smart.  So, we are back to NO COMPUTER access when parents are gone!  We allowed them once for playing games, but they get distracted and start surfing the internet, which is another scarey thought.
Here is the song that she was singing and writing the lyrics of.  I personally do not like it...but I just thought I would share for fun what kind of stuff my kids are listenning to outside our home.  Crazy!  I am so not IN with what songs and singers are out there.  I'm still listening to the 80's-90's era, and enjoy the OLDIES stuff as well.  Some Music today is just a bit too much for me, in comparison to what I am used to listening to.

A Very Spiritual Fireside..."Every Good Gift"

I have totally been meaning to post about the wonderful Family Fireside we attended this last Sunday!  Our friends, the Gardiners are in Vancouver, Canada right now, where their three oldest daughters are performing for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.  They took the time to put together their very first Musical Fireside for folks in our Stake.  They did awesome.  Eliza and are were such cry babies.  Juliette was just more inspired to sing and the rest of the audience present were moved by the Spirit.
The theme was based on Moroni 10 "...Spiritual gifts always accompany faith...Come unto Christ, be perfected in him, and sanctify your souls."  The songs they sang were Perfect and three of them were some of my favorite ones.
A little background:  We met the Gardiner family over 5 years ago, and since they left Bellingham (about 3 or so years ago) they have added two more kids to their family.  They have 8 children and are quite the inspirational family.  Kristi was the best Visiting Teacher I have ever had.  Her daughters were a delight to teach in Primary.  It is a joy, a pleasure and an honor to know them.  We truly love this family and it was wonderful to see them again.  Especially to hear the girls singing live.
We hope another three years don't go by before we get to see them again.
Congratulations Gardiner Sisters for making it to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as performers.  You girls are amazingly talented.  I love the way you didn't draw attention to yourselves, but pointed to the Savior through words and music as well as your spirit at the Fireside.  Mandi, Hailey and Allie...Thank you!
Find them on YouTube, MySpace and Gardiner Sisters.com
This video is of one of the songs they sang at the Fireside that we love, enjoy:

On The Market For New Running Shoes...

I have to come to the realization that my old pair of favorite running shoes have given me the last of their performance ability.  My ASICS KAHANA shoes have been the best running shoes I have owned so far.  Asics no longer makes this exact model and I'm extremely dissappointed.  I have spent the last 6 months shopping on e-Bay and online to find the same exact old pair.  I found a few, but none turned out to be the perfect fit.  Well it would help if I bought them my size...I was desperate and thought I could compromise going a half size smaller or bigger.  Rob ended up with the bigger size (yes, he runs in women's shoes for now) and then I sold the smaller size.
I did get lucky and found the same exact shoe and size at the Goodwill for less than $10.00 brand new.  I have been wearing those, but hesitate to wear them out.  I know I'm being a baby about all this.  With the old pair, I believe I have put in over 2,000 miles, maybe more.  I ran my first Marathon in them (very sentimental) and I don't want to give them up.
I have to have two pairs of running shoes.  I run enough to have this privilege, and it does help with my running and with the durability of my shoes.  These Asics were an exception.  Anyhow, I will definitely keep running in the other pair of Asics I found, but I have to replace my old pair (they are causing me some knee discomforts and prolonged aches).  SO, I am in the Market for a any brand and any style as long as it accomodates my low-pronation and tight budget.  I am an ASICS fan but I can change...
So, I have spent the last hour shopping and researching online for the latest top running shoes and technology.  I am super overwhelmed.  There is a vast selection out there.  Way too big, way too many choices.  Last Summer the barefoot running option was considered.  I was not fully sold or convinced to switch.  The thought has come to my mind several times through out the year and have heard some testimonials from friends.  I'm actaully considering it, but I'm not converting yet.  The barefoot shoes are super expensive for one, and I'm a bit skeptical.  There are CONS and PROS.  I guess I wouldn't be able to develop my own opinion until I acually experienced it myself.
I have some deciding to do.  I do believe that our runnings shoes today have way too much heel cushioning.  When I used to run sprints I used the front of my feet and midfoot, hardly ever did I use my heels.  I do see the benefit of not using your heels so much for running.  I have a lot to learn and perhaps I will remain in my old ways and style of running, but I would still love to try something new and different, put some new shoes to the test.

GOODBYE TO MY OLD PAIR TOMORROW OR MAYBE NEXT WEEK....

I Know When....

I know when my kids have brushed their teeth:
They leave the sink filled with blue spit, toothbrushes are out and the toothpaste is deformed.
I know when my kids have gone to the bathroom:
They forget to flush, then I noticed they didn't wipe YUCK, and the light is left on.
I know when my kids are done with their meal:
They have left overs on the ground, they forgot to pick up their plate and they all say that they are full until dessert is mentioned.
I know when my kids have showered:
They leave the towels on the bathroom floor, bedroom and hallway floor as well.  They leave their dirty laundry in the bathroom and the shampoo and liquid body soap are left in the bathtub to drain completely emptied.
I know when my kids have put away their clean laundry:
I find it piled back in the dirty laundry basket, hidden under the bed or in shoved in the corners of their closet.
I know when my gum goes missing:
I find it under a certain child's pillow.

I finally decided today that laughter is the the best medicine and the only way to deal with life's little reacurrances.  I need to stop feeling like a failure and remind myself that they are just kids being kids and that they will get it someday.

I also decided that if it took Thomas Edison over 9,000 attempts to get the Light Bulb right and he said "...Why would I feel like a failure?  And why would I ever give up?  I now know definitely over 9,000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work.  Success is almost in my grasp."
Then with this in mind it will be alright for me to keep at it until something works.

I know when my kids have had a good day:
They are laughing, playing in harmony and give out free hugs and kisses without resisting.
I know when my husband has had a good day:
He makes me a full out steak dinner after  he gets home from work at 7pm.
My kids know when I have had a good day:
I have gone for a run, read my scrpitures and did the laundry.

Consistency Is Key to Laying a Gospel Foundation

“More Diligent and Concerned at Home,” Ensign, Nov. 2009, 19-20

“Each family prayer, each episode of family scripture study, and each family home evening is a brushstroke on the canvas of our souls. No one event may appear to be very impressive or memorable. But just as the yellow and gold and brown strokes of paint complement each other and produce an impressive masterpiece, so our consistency in doing seemingly small things can lead to significant spiritual results. ‘Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great’ (D&C 64:33).”

To the One I Love...

My Valentine, I love thee
More than a dog loves a tree
More than a lumberjack
Loves a cucumber snack
Or a fish loves staying wet
More even than
Romeo loved Juliet

I love you more
Than a clown loves being funny
Or a miser loves saving money
Or Hitler loved making war
My Valentine,
I adore you more
Than an aardvark loves ants
I've a stirring in me......mind

For the right words,
Sentiments
I'm grasping,
Groping
This poem could go on forever
Like us
I'm hoping
Be my Valentine

Happiness is being married to my best friend

Rob, The Handy Man....

What could of cost us hundreds of dollars only cost us less than $10. My Man has become quite the handy man lately! He never ceases to amaze me. He fixed my kitchen sink this week. There was some bad old pipes that were rotten and leaking and with a little help from his Daddy, Rob tackled the scarey task of replacing the pipes. HE DID IT! Thank you Rob. Thanks Dad Merlin for the great suggestions!

A Vast Amount of Blogging to Do. But I have no time to do it all...

Life has been very busy these past two weeks. We had my parents visit us for a few days (thank you for coming, it was a pleasure to have you). We took a four day vacation (went to Puyallup to visit friends and to Grand Mound for an Indoor Water park Resort), Aunt Frandi (Thank you for watching kiddos and for our family photo shoot, you spoil us) came to visit for 4 days, and then Rob and I took a night out and stayed at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine (close to the Canadian Border) which was a wonderful and memorable experience. Thank you Rob! We also met Destina and Avrie Gordon at Church this last Fast Sunday. They are absolutely gorgeous in person. They have quite the personalities. We have also been consumed by all the paper work that needs to be done online and offline for the adoption process to progress. I have felt some feelings of stress lately that I had not felt in a long time. There has been so much to do but so little, to no time, to do it all or at least some. I have felt life slowing down a bit and tonight I'm able to sit and blog.

I have not kept a tangible journal for over a year. Blogging has become my Journal. So, I know how important it is for me to post on my blog. I have to do it often or I will forget the feelings or thoughts that I'm experiencing or Rob or the kids. I have to document our adventures and crazy life through words and pictures. I mainly blog to share our lives with our distant relatives, and close friends. It keeps us connected with them and them with us.
Anyhow, the last weeks have been crazy. But, the memories and good times experienced have been priceless. My parents' visit was pleasant as always. I took my Mom and Dad thrift/consignment shopping and we found some great bargains. They took us out to eat Mexican food and spoiled us with all the service and kind things they did. I just love them. The kids adore them. Sophia LOVES Abuelo!!! He lets her do anything and buys her stuff. SPOILED!
Visiting Rob's old college roommate and his family in Puyallup, WA was wonderful. They let us stay overnight twice (so nice, they didn't have to). We stayed once on our way to Grand Mound and then on the way back home. It is a delight to visit with them and I enjoyed my runs with Tyrene. They are amazing people to be with. It is good to know and have great friends like them.
Grand Mound, WA was fun. We took the kids to "Great Wolf Lodge" overnight. It is a resort with an Indoor Water park that the kids just loved. We promised to take them about a year ago and we just didn't get around to it. It was a reward for them for reading the Book of Mormon from start to finish. Better late than Never! Anyhow, I took a ton of pictures needless to say. The kids could have spent their entire vacation in the Wave Pool. This is where the kids had the most fun! There were other rides like the Howlin' Tornado Roller Coaster water slide and some other rides, but they seem to always enjoy being shoved and pushed around by waves, than tubing down some crazy/wild water slides. Rob and I experienced a bit of motion sickness or dizziness from riding these slides. The kids could keep riding if we had let them. CRAZY! Oh, let’s not forget the indoor Jacuzzi. That was heavenly for all of us! Overall we enjoyed ourselves as a family and spent some quality and quantity time together. A sweet and short vacation that was much needed. Thank you Rob and thank you to the Hartsell Family for their wonderful hospitality and friendship!
We picked up my little sister Frandi in Seattle on our way back home. The day we arrived, Rob and I dumped her and the kids at home and we left for a night and a Day to be alone without kids. Rob took me to this great local resort called "Semiahmoo". It is very high class and pricey, but not during the off season. We got to enjoy waterfront view and access for less than $90.00 with a king size bed. We went jogging the next morning along this strip of road that had the U.S harbor on one side and the Canadian waters on the other. It was really beautiful to see both sides on our run and enjoy nature and its calmness. We really had a great time and took a ton of pictures. We might make this an annual tradition. He took me to Victoria, Canada last year, but I wouldn't mind coming to this resort again. Thank you, Rob. You are my best friend!
My sister was wonderful, as always! These kids got spoiled by their Aunt. She bought them stuff and took them to eat at Olive Garden, hello?! Olive Garden??? With 4 kids? WOW! She is just amazing! I did enjoy going thrift shopping with her. It is so much fun to find great deals and then also go to a store with odd things and watch her act like such a kid with Sophia. She had Sophia hold out these huge panties and she took a picture. Poor Sophia was a bit embarrassed but she still did it for Aunt Frandi. That is True Love!
She even did us a huge favor and patiently spent time photographing us as a family. We needed a really good close-up shot of all of us together for our adoption profile. She did a fantastic job on her first photo shoot! Thanks a ton sista! It was sad to see my sister go this time. For some reason, all of us were a bit melancholic afterwards. The kids kept asking about her for about three days and talking about how much fun they had with her here. We can't wait to see her again. Thank you, Sister for being such a Joy to be with and to have. Thank you for coming to visit and babysit kids while Rob and I took a little break from reality. We are so indebted to you!
Once we were back to reality we had the pleasure of attending church and meeting the Gordon's little girls from Haiti. It was pure joy to all of us to see them and meet them. Eliza says that she was teary eyed during Primary with the girls there. Juliette and Sophia kept looking back from our seats9 during sacrament, to see the two girls. Once they saw them, they would turn and grin for the longest time. Juliette squealed softly with excitement when she found out they were at church. It was so sweet to see our kids be so excited about them. There was a lot of love during that Sacrament meeting. That room was filled with the spirit and the joy of having these precious girls be in our midst. Everyone's testimonies were an uplift and there was much to be grateful for and share about the Gordon's experience and their girls. It is truly a Miracle that they are here now. Heavenly Father sure answered our prayers. My heart is full!

P.S.  Slide show coming your way of our two weeks...Stay tuned!  Thanks for reading!

Welcome Home Girls...

We just got back from Vacation and was excited to find out that the Gordon Family have arrived home with their girls.  Here is a news report video and you can read more about them on their bog http://gordongangnews.blogspot.com/.  I cannot tell you how happy I am that they have their girls and my heart is full of Thanks to Heavenly Father for answering our prayers.  Thanks to you all as well for praying with us.  I can't wait to hug these girls!
